Board Game Design

Board Game Design
Here is the design of the board i would probably change the colour next time to more of a blue:

Here is the original design of the planes but i had to change them as we didn't have the resources to make them 3D:

Here is the final design of the planes however next time i would make them a classic army green:

Here is the design of the logo i would not change a thing on it:

Learning about animates Timeline

Learning about animates Time line
The Time line in animate is fairly simple. the time line is not the actual frames but a place for the frames to be held and selected and worked on. you can make the frames in the time line big or small. the timeline also has key frames which are the points of th etimline that have been edited and the keyframes are what the pictures transition between. you can have different assets within the time line for example you can have a drawing and then have a bone skeleton that can be assigned to the drawing so it can be animated and moved.

Here is the time line:

Animation overview

Animation overview
As a whole i think that the animation process on animate is fairly hard but i do think with a bit of practise and research it could get easier. for the most part i have just been accidental animating things and they actually work but i don't know how i got to that point.

Here is a Ball i animated to bounce:

Facial Expressions
we were told to take a photo of our selves in a certain expression then to try and draw a face with said expression this is what i did.

Airplane Arsenal Rationale

Air-plane Arsenal Rationale
The objectives i set my self were:

  • Create an impressive board game-I thought that this would be a fairly easy thing to do how ever with no budget it makes it hard to make something out of nothing and my design and idea cant be made justice with just paper and glue.
  • Provide a fresh twist on an existing game-I decided to base my game off of the well known game of battleships, however i gave it a twist by changing the original ships with planes and adding more points to bomb as the said planes have wings.
  • Appeal to a wide audience-I wanted to make the game to appeal to a wide audience that is why there is a lot of grey and green as i feel they are neutral colours between genders.
  • Make a complex board game-I want to make the game challenging but not so hard that people get fed up and bored of playing as it may insult there intelligence, but the whole idea of my game is that there is a lot of guessing which everyone can do comfortably and if they miss then the miss.
The conditions of the brief:
  • Must have a clear product identity
  • Must have a clear target audience-My target audience is more or less everyone and that no one is restricted with it.
  • Must not exceed A3-My board does not exceed A3 as it is folded up and is an odd shape anyway.
  • Must not be harmful or hazardous-Apart form a few small piece it is safe.
  • Must include traditional elements-It does have Little counters that represent the misses and the hits, also there are little planes that the player places before the game starts.
My Game Design:
I decided to make my games design very simple and easy to see. i made the board with different shades of grey so they can see the grid easily. i then made the planes a darker grey but now thinking about it i would of made them the classic army green. then for the miss and hit pins i would make the miss a sky blue as planes are in the sky and i would make the hit red just like the classic game of battleships.
the planes on both sides consist of a 5 square(C-5M), 4 square(J11), two 3 square(Spitfire, stealth bomber) and a 2 square(AH6) aircraft that can be placed as the player wishes. they also have to remember the wings as all of the planes have them.

I also made a logo for may game it is based on the spitfire as that is one of the most well known planes:

Peer Assessment:
I looked at the game Race to Space which is based off of snakes and ladders. i thought that it was a good game and well executed. it was easy to play and fairly fun however the person that made it did win when i played them making it seem as if they made it so that they could win. the aesthetic of it being in space was quite cool as you could see the details of the background like the stars  also the counters were quite good as they were themed with space.
The game does fit the criteria. it doesn't exceed international paper size A3, there are traditional element i.e. playing pieces. there is a clear product identity as the name well represents the game.there target audience is fairly clear that it is inclusive and that everyone can play it really. there are no harmful aspects of the game apart from the fact that young children may eat the counters.

Overall evaluation:
My design process was to make something similar to Battleships were the board was up right so that the other player could not see were you planes are. as i said i based it on Battleships the thing i did differently is that i made it with planes instead and you have got to take out the planes wings to take it out. This makes the game harder as they have to bomb not just the a line but more of a cross.
I do think that my product would be a success having i had made the board with pins that would act as the bombs that either hit or miss the targets. but as it is the game would not be a success but has full potential to do so. I think that next time i would change the colour scheme and make the board look like the sky and the planes more of a classic army green. i would also of made the planes 3D and with more detail had i of had the materials to do so. If i had more time to respond to the brief i would of made the pins that would be used to show the hits and misses.

3 Act Structure

3 Act Structure
The 3 Act Structure is based upon the idea of a beginning, middle and end. all of these have different plot twist climaxes and incidents that can make or break a film. I'm gonna use the film White House Down to give examples of how this is so.
For example the incident that sets the rest of the film in the beginning is when the intruders come in and blow up the main room in the white house and take it over by killing all of the secret service.

The Main plot twist with in the film is when the presidents chief of security then turns out to be the one that turns against him and is the one that helped the intruders take over the white house.
Sadly i am unable to find a clip of this scene.

The mid point in my opinion is when Tatum and fox take the limo around the front lawn of the white house and then attempt a get away but are unable too.

The climax i would say is the final fight scene were Tatum come and defeats the remaining enemy's and saves his daughter and the president. as this is the biggest and final fight amongst them.

Lastly the final couple of scenes are there to close loose ends and they do this by hiding the president at first whilst Tatum confronts the vice president who at which was the main person behind the whole event as if the president was dead then he could be come in charge so with him thinking that he was dead he asked for Tatum to be arrested but then the real president played by Jamie fox walks out and confirms everything Tatum says and then remains the president.

Monopoly Diversity

Monopoly Diversity
Monopoly has developed a lot over the years and now features not just the original design but licensed versions of it for example there is star wars, the Simpson's, the lord of the rings and also different cities such as bath and Manchester.

They have also branched out in to lotto and McDonald's giving cash prizes.

Learning Animate

Learning Animate
First i just got used to the drawing tools and learning were they are. i was asked to draw a cat without animating it yet so this is what i drew.

Pyramid Scheme animation

Pyramid Scheme animation
The animation was very good as it was smooth and eye catching. it also got its point across about how these pyramid schemes are bad and how to avoid them. the animation was interesting enough to keep me interested which is a big thing as if it didn't then i could of missed out on some important information.

Here is an example of said pyramid schemes that i have found:

My chosen project

My chosen project
Where to get music for media projects:
you can get non copyrighted music from lots of places but most have the website name said in the background which can make them unusable so the best way to get music is to ask the artist if you may use there music or too use the free music that is in the youtube editor which is easier and they have a wide range of different types of music.
there are also lots of websites that you pay a subscription to use any of the music on the website as long as you link your subscription in the description however they are costly.
there are also youtube channels dedicated to non copyright music that you can use as long as you link the channel and song.
here is a example of those youtube channels:

here is an example of the subscription service:

Impact of Audio in film:However modern cinema is completely the opposite as it uses sound in a lot of different ways from telling a story to make the viewer feel something. story telling can come from just speaking over the images and telling the story to making the scene feel like it was right were the viewer is, by recreating the sounds that would of happened in the real world. You can make some one fell differently about a scene by the use of music as if you had very intense music they might feel that the scene was fast and worrying or if they put classical music to it they might think that it is romantic.

Designing my brief: I decided to make a short comedy film that could be put on Instagram or you tube and needed to be about 60 seconds. My idea came from watching my friend talk to his mum on the phone, and it was that his mum phoned him and then asked if he could do a couple of chores around the house which he said yes but wasn't too happy to do, then she asked him about his day and what he was doing later and so fourth. i could see how annoyed and frustrated he was getting from the conversation, so in my film i want to take the frustration to the next level by making it similar to a cartoon such as Tom and Jerry or Loony Toons.

180 degree rule

180 degree rule
the 180 degree rule is the rule that you only film from one side of a conversation not the full 360 for example if some was in a fight and you filmed over the shoulder of one of the actors then the other would say be on the left and vise versa but they would be on the right but when you brake the 180 rule then the first person would be on the right nd the second on the left which can confuse the audience here is an example of breaking the 180 degree rule.

Roles

Roles
the importance of roles with in film production are so that everyone knows exactly what they have to do at what time and the structure of the roles is also as important as it means that they know who they have to ask if there are any uncertainties or problems.
here is an example of a structure for a film.

Animate

Animate
we were introduced to animate which is a software that is used to create drawings and then animate them this lesson we were asked to draw a character or thing of some sort so i drew a bear here is a screen shot.

Zero

Zero
Zero is a stop motion animation that i thought was really well made as it was smooth and had a good story/message of that nothing can become something and that there is always hope. but overall it was entertaining.

One way to die

One way to die
We looked at an animation called one way to die which i thought was a well executed and short animation that got to the point that it was trying to make quickly. it was entertaining as it kept us engaged and interested.

The Power of Advertising

The Power of Advertising
Advertising is good as it can make or break a product or service if it is not done right then that product will soon become unavailable as it will become out of business but on the other hand if it is done right then the sales of said product can increase dramatically.
Some times advertising is made well but might not have any thing to do with the product or service it is trying to market which is not very good.

Shot Analysis 2

Shot Analysis 2
Like before in shot analysis i looked at different shots and how they can give a character emotion and that every camera angle happens for a reason.
So our task was to only take 5 or 6 different shots and see how we can make a scene seem as though it is progressing.
The different camera angles make the character seem as though they are equal or even superior at first but then as it goes on he becomes less as the camera angle is pointing down at him making it seem as though he is not as strong as he was at the start.

This is what i came up with:

Stop Motion Animation

Stop Motion Animation
We were tasked with the project of making a Stop motion animation on something to do with fire. we were told that there should be about 12 frames per second or more and that we could make it using Plasticine or paper.
Our idea was of a guy walking towards a bonfire and roasting a marsh mellow which caught fire and then caught the guy on fire which then he drops the marsh mellow and runs around to get rid of it. but as we were making the animation we found that it was a bit short so we made the guy role on the floor to get rid of the flame then get up and eat the marsh mellow and walk away like nothing had happened.

This is the finished product:

Board Game Production

Board Game Production
After looking at the brief i am confident that i can meet the requirements and parameters, as most of them are plain common sense and meet what is usually classed as a board game: Must not exceed international paper size A3, which means i cant make it too big.   games must not be harmful or hazardous in any way, for obvious reasons that no one gets hurt.
I intend to work on my own as i feel that it is easier than having to rely on other people as they might not do there job properly and it complicates things.

I am going to research about what my target audience could be and what games are out at the moment and wether or not there popular. i will look online to get some inspiration and ideas.
I do have an idea of what i might do and it is based on the game battle ships but in stead of ships it has airplanes in stead and it could have different sized planes.
The questions i might ask are, is there any other alternatives to battle ships already on the market? what audience will i aim at as that could change the out come of the logo design and game all round.

Stop motion thing

Stop motion thing

we watched a clip that was about stop motion animation
the bit that i found most interesting is that they told us how long it can take to make a stop motion clip. the bit i found the least interesting is when they gave reasons of why they don't like CGI as i think CGI is great and when it is done right you don't even know it is there.

sorry i didnt know the difference between american and european animation

Shot Analysis

Shot Analysis

Shots play a big part in films as they can change then idea of how a character or scene is perceived. for example on a scene were some one is angry and throwing things around if you film it with a wide shot it will seem as though there is meant to be some sort of comedic factor too it how ever if you filmed it with close up and mid shots to show were the things are thrown too and what the characters facial expression is then you feel an emotional connection to the character making it seem like an intense and emotional scene.

I chose to look at how a shot could be used to create tension and comedy in a scene from Django Unchained.
it started out with a close up of Dr. Shults replacing some money with explosives in side the tooth above his waggon to give some context to later on in the scene.

then it went to an over the shoulder shot of three of the raiders looking over a hill on to the waggon, then it showed a close up on to the three of them getting up and walking away.

then you see the rest of the raiders showing up on there horses waiting for orders from the three that scouted out the waggon, then we see a wide shot of all the raiders running down the hill on their horses towards the waggon and surrounding it.

then it goes to a shot that in the time line happened about 5 minuets before they surrounded the waggon, were they are getting there orders from the three leaders at which they put on the pillowcases that they use as masks but then they find a fatal flaw that they cant see out of them, so then it goes to a close up of the main leader ripping the eye holes to make them bigger and then failing. then for the next 2 and a half minuets we see back and fourths of the leaders and the raiders arguing what they should do about the masks and how rubbish they are. what i find interesting though is that at the start of this part of the scene the cameras look up to the leaders and look down on the raiders to show power and authority but then as they argue it slowly levels off between them showing that the leaders are no better than the rest of the raiders.

once they get over the argument it goes back to the scene were they are running down the hill and circling the waggon how ever the first time we see them circling the waggon we are looking up at them but now that we know they struggle to see and raiding blind we now are equal height or even looking down on them, at which they realise that Shults and Django are no longer there.

then we get a close up of Shults and Django with a gun who then fire at the explosives from earlier which blows up most of the raiders which we see by a combination of close ups and wide shots. then finally we get one last close up of Shults and Django laughing that they managed to out smart the raiders .
