Brain storming ideas
I wasn't sure about what I was going to do for my FMP at first, but I did know I wanted to make something to either include animation or moving image. Then I thought why don't I do my FMP with both, as both are equally my strong points.
My next step to figure out what I was going to do, was to think of things that I enjoy, so i thought of doing something to do with music, RC's, water sports, Taekwondo or video games.
Then I had to think how I could put these ideas in to animation or film.
I thought that music and water sports would be better as just films with no animation as that would make them easier, because trying to animate fingers playing the guitar would be difficult and water sports would require lots of fast movement animation. I also thought that Taekwondo and video game could be made into an animation and film as either way they shouldn't be to hard, as video games are animations anyway, and you film people playing them. Taekwondo has slow simple movements that would be easy to animate, and I could film one of my classes.
To make it easier to visualise my ideas I then did a mind map, starting with four categories (Documentary film, animation, animation/film mix, instructional film).
Within the first four categories I then, put the different topics I could do each option on and then elaborated on asking question of what I could do for each. For animation I looked at doing either an explaining animation i.e. to explain what something is or how it works or a historical animation i.e. to do a time line of the history of a topic.
Then, for an instructional film I thought of doing either, Teakwondo (explaining moves) guitar (showing how to play basic chords) or RC's (Radio Controlled models)(how they work and how to use them).
Then, for animation/film mix I thought of doing guitar (same as instructional film) video games (the history of and how they have evolved) or Taekwondo (explaining basic moves and theory).
Finally, for documentary film i thought of doing Taekwondo (again the history of) or video games (which again how they have evolved and the history of).
I would like to do one of the animation/film mixes as then it includes both my strong points and requires some good editing to make it look right. I also feel that it would be beneficial for me to do it on Taekwondo as a basic moves and theory film, as it will help me learn the theory for my grading, and that I already have a fairly good knowledge on the topic, so it would be killing to birds with one stone. I can also give it to my instructor when its finished to help other students.
I'm thinking of not doing the other ideas as a whole piece purely film would be hard to manage and organise as at least half film and half animation it mainly requires just me dong the work. However if I just did an animation it would take a long time to make it.
