Drawing Experimentation
For my first set of experiments I decided to look at how i want the drawing of the animation to be. I made a few comparisons on different aspects of the scenes and I will be asking some other people of what they think.
The first experiment I did was on what eyes I wanted to use for the characters, now taking in to account of which would save time whilst still looking the best i have my own opinion on which I should use, however like I said I will be asking some other people of what they think.
I personally think that A and B are the best looking and most practical because they are simple and easy to draw however A doesn't have much detail but does give the character a very serious stern look that is made better with hair. Also I think that B could be seen as though the character is sleeping which I also don't want. I have written off C and E completely as C makes it seem as though the character is dead and E just doesn't look natural in my opinion. D on the other hand could be used but it gives a very surprised expression which again is not what I am going for.
Moving on to the next experiment I looked at different hair styles, similar to the eyes I have my own opinion of what I should use but I will be asking some other people of what they think is best.
I personally think that D or E are the best options as they look the best however D takes the longest to draw as it is lots of long individual lines, but E is fairly quick to draw compared to say A and D. I have decided to cast off A and B completely because I am not happy with how they turn out and i cant get them to look how i imagine in my head so there a no. C on the other hand I am willing to use if the majority other people i will ask say to use it as it is basically E but a little more round.
The final Drawing experiment I carried out was how I wanted the main background to look. Now I knew that i want a sort of dojo but I didn't know how I was going to draw it, the plus side is with each animation I can just copy and paste the background for each frame instead of drawing it each time, I will need a couple of different agles of the same background though so I might have to draw 3-4 backgrounds in total to get all the angles I need.
Here is my first attempt of making the dojo which as you can see I didn't finish because as I was making it I found that it was hard to draw as it uses shapes rather than the pen tool also it just didn't look that good. So i decided to scrap that idea and restarted by drawing based on a photo that i got off of google, i first imported the photo in to photoshop and then drew other it to get something that was like the photo but with more drawn comic style using layers of the ben and picking colours off of the original image.
This is what i ended up with and i am quite happy with it however speaking to some other people and looking at it my self it needs some more detail in the form of outlines around each of the colours to give more of a three dimensional feel.
That is all the drawing experimentation I did other than drawing a couple of stick men to see if they would work instead of drawing a detailed character but they didn't so i gave up on that idea. other all though i now feel I have a good idea of how the character and scenes will look.
